Sickle cell crisis

Ask.People with sickle cell disease usually know when they're having a crisis, and may have a care plan.

Call 999 if someone with sickle cell disease has any of these signs:
  • Severe pain, difficulty breathing, or they're being sick
  • A high temperature
  • An erection that's painful or won't go away

Stay with them and reassure them until help arrives.

What is a sickle cell crisis?

Sudden, severe pain, or other symptoms such as blurred vision or a high temperature. It can last hours, days or weeks.
